TYPE CAMP INFORMATION DESIGN
Once Gus Soares completed his Social Communication degree in São Paulo, Brazil in 2003, he quickly moved into working for advertising and marketing agencies. After three years of designing for McDonalds, Pepsi, and Oracle, Gus changed his career and saved his sanity by switching to editorial design. While he was the Art Director of BIZZ, a popular Brazilian music magazine, he began to notice the role that design plays when clarifying complex information structures. That was all it took to get him to cross hemispheres in order to earn his Masters Degree in Information Design from the Typography Department at the University of Reading in England. While there, he applied his design skills to redesigning St Bride Library forms as well as redesigning the bilingual style magazine, JungleDrums. Once TypeCamp 2008 starts, Gus will have completed the Type and Media program at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and will be ready for a bit of Galiano Island recuperation.
