Tiffany Wardle

Instructor

“Typegirl”, is a typographer and graphic designer currently living and working in San Jose, California. After graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in Graphic Design from Brigham Young University, she worked in magazine design in New York City. However, the drone of the rat race was too much and the call of teaching was too strong, so she returned to her native Utah to teach as an adjunct professor in Graphic Design at BYU. After a few years, Tiffany changed her life once again when she found she couldn’t resist the lure of graduate school, and promptly moved to Reading, England and earned her Master of Arts in the Theory and History of Typography and Graphic Communication. She hasn’t looked back since. Her words have been published in Codex, STEP Inside Design, Interrobang, Indie Fonts III, and TypeCulture. She has been a board member for the Society of Typographic Aficionados and a contributing volunteer for the Association Typographique Internationale.

"Type Camp allows me the honor of passing along some of the typographic knowledge I've collected over the years. When I am in a situation where someone needs information which I happen to have access to that is when I'm most happy. And anyone will tell you that teaching is highly symbiotic and hardly one-sided. I've had some very profound learning experiences when I was supposed to be the one teaching."

food

I love food. So much. Currently it would be a tie in between the deconstructed samosa from Curry Up Now and the pork belly and pickle on a bun from General Bao.

book

Incapable of choosing. But I will say that for any aspiring typographer I still swear by the holy triumvirate.

The Elements of Typographic Style by Robert Bringhurst
Anatomy of a Typeface by Alexander Lawson
Letters of Credit by Walter Tracy

drink

I like to switch things up in between water, Diet Pepsi Lime, Pepsi Max, and Diet Coke Lime.

film/tv

I love film and tv. My form of escapism.

travel

I've followed type conferences to Europe and around North America. I've lived in England for a year and still think of it as a second home. But really I am a boring homebody.

collection

Books. Everything else is just baggage and will get thrown out eventually.

invention

I am still waiting for Instantaneous Matter Transportation as seen on Star Trek.

plant

Plants attract bugs. I don't like bugs.

sound

I love all kinds of music, even a little country. But not so much of the death metal variety.

blog

I don't blog. If I did it would be terribly boring and most assuredly annoy people.

animal

I think kittens and puppies are cute. And if they stayed small I might really want one. But at the end of the day I'm allergic to them so no pets for me. I know in the design world this makes me an anomaly.

expert
