This Type Camp is for anyone that is interested in letters and sign painting. No experience in typography, calligraphy, or sign painting is needed.
Learn about and how to do signs and sign painting from the masters, while surrounded by the best examples in the world. Signage and neon walking tours every morning and sign painting workshops every afternoon – this is a designers’ view of Las Vegas!
Our studio base will be the totally cool Las Vegas Neon Museum. You’ve probably seen pics of their ‘boneyard’!) All Type Camp Las Vegas attendees will receive a membership to the Museum included with their registration. You will never have such direct access to sign painting and Las Vegas as you will have at this Type Camp!
You will learn about sign painting letterforms and layout, the way the professionals do it. No computers here! You’ll finally understand balance and impact, and will gain experience in the basic sign painter’s ‘Egyptian’, ‘Roman’, ‘Script’, and ‘Casual’ forms.
Each participant will receive a special pack of sign painting supplies, specifically selected by our experienced sign painter instructors. You’ll use these fancy-schmancy tools to create several projects of your own and then one to share with the community.
We take care of you! Your housing is covered by us and so is breakfast and lunch. Dinner is on your own each night.
You will learn from the best! Our head teachers are the famous and very well-respected sign painters Mark Oatis and Patrick Smith, along with Type Camp alum and professional sign painter Remy Chwae ‘aka Sign Gal’, will teach this camp. Assisting them will be Type Camp Founding Director Dr. Shelley Gruendler.
Type Camp is pleased to partner with the Las Vegas Neon Museum for this event!
