Originally from Toronto, Canada, Scott Boms has been designing for paper and pixels professionally for more than 15 years.
He currently spends his days in the Analog Research Lab at Facebook in sunny Menlo Park, California and is responsible for exploring, questioning, creating, and directing projects that influence and challenge culture within the organization and communicating meaningfully with the outside world. While this favors analog processes and mediums such as silk screen, letterpress and sign painting, it does not neglect digital.
Alongside this, he is one fifth of Butter Label, a maker at Fairgoods, and his work has appeared in publications such as HOW, Offscreen, Net magazine, Fast Company, and others. He likes hats, Chuck Taylors and a fine single malt.
Always in search of the best burger. And burrito.
The Medium is the Massage by Marshall McLuhan. I read it again at least once a year and pour through Understanding Media sporadically as well. Currently I'm pouring over Ralph Gregory's "Sign Painting Techniques" and anything else I can locate on that particular subject.
2 fingers of The Macallan. Neat.
Star Wars (the original trilogy, duh), Blade Runner, Indiana Jones, Chris Nolan's Batman series, Scott Pilgrim vs The World, Good Will Hunting, LOTR, and pretty much any of the Marvel comics movies. I'm also a big fan of The Simpsons, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, House of Cards and The Walking Dead.
I have a soft spot for London in the fall, but fell in love with Portland in 2013. My daughter now says she wants to live there and I'd be totally ok with doing the same.
I made some pretty awesome stuff out of Lego when I was a kid.
The lemon tree in our front yard.
I'm a drummer and Canadian so I'm a sucker for all things Rush. I'm also really into Wilco, Jenny Lewis, The National, The New Pornographers and The Ramones among so much more.

I have 3 cats.
I don't think I've ever felt like an expert at anything, but rather someone who's constantly exploring, learning and trying to get better at anything I put my mind to.
when not at type camp
Enjoying the northern California outdoor with my family, taking photos, continuing to learn about sign painting and just generally making things both digitally and with my hands.
